Our Top 7 Breweries & Distilleries To Tour

Jester King Brewery: Set on 165 acres of gorgeous hill country farmland, Jester King focuses on authentic farmhouse style ales. In addition to the brewery, the property includes a restaurant, farm, and event hall. Expect beers infused with farmed and foraged ingredients, like Texas wildflower honey or gala apples. Free 30-minute brewery tours are highly recommended!

Vista Brewing: Vista is heavily influenced by the great beers of Europe. Think German Kolsches and Helles, Belgian Tripels, and English ESBs. The award-winning brewmaster at Vista combines classic European techniques and local ingredients to produce an outstanding selection. (And if European beer isn’t your thing, not to worry — they’ve also got an American style IPA.) The onsite restaurant’s menu changes daily to complement the current beer offerings.

Twisted X Brewing Co: Twisted X is proud to offer visitors the finest in small-batch craft beers, including lagers, pilsners, and IPAs. While you can find many of their beers in bars or stores, there are always a few select brews that are only available in the tasting room, where new recipes are frequently tested. Tour the brewery, enjoy a flight, and sample the latest and greatest.

Deep Eddy: Known for their award-winning vodka, Deep Eddy is a great spot for a refreshing cocktail or flight of flavored spirits. They pride themselves on not taking life too seriously — no need for anything fancy here. Kick back on the outdoor patio with an Austin Mule and let it transport you to a lazy afternoon at the iconic swimming hole the vodka’s named for.

Treaty Oak Distilling: At Treaty Oak, it’s all about the process. They don’t just want you to taste the final product — they want you to know the story of where the ingredients come from, how it’s made, and how the distiller feels about it. They’re currently offering up a bourbon made with heirloom Texas grains, along with the award-winning Red Handed Bourbon and a 10-year-old rye. Their ranch complex offers guided tours (for a fee), as well as a restaurant and “cocktail lab”.

Desert Door: And now for something completely different! If you’re not familiar with sotol, it’s a distilled spirit made from an indigenous flowering plant. (You might find it similar to mezcal.) Desert Door offers two varieties, original and oak-aged, and their expert guides will walk you through all the nuances of this spirit. You can also enjoy craft cocktails, gourmet snacks, and a cozy fireplace.

The Infinite Monkey Theorem: What’s an urban winery? Get rid of everything you don’t need — sweeping vistas, rolling hills, and any hint of pretension — and just focus on making really good wine from the best grapes you can get your hands on. Infinite Monkey Theorem produces top-notch wine, sourced from Texas High Plains grapes, out of their nontraditional South Austin warehouse. Whether you’re into reds, whites, roses, or bubbles, Infinite Monkey Theorem is sure to have something you’ll enjoy.
